Dorohedoro Season 3 has been officially announced, with Toho confirming production immediately following the Season 2 finale that aired on May 27, 2026. Director Yuichiro Hayashi and animation studio MAPPA are both returning for the next chapter of Q Hayashida's dark fantasy manga adaptation.
A Surprise Sequel Announcement
The announcement came right after the broadcast of Dorohedoro Season 2, Episode 11 — the season's finale. Director Yuichiro Hayashi commemorated the occasion with a special illustration featuring the character Haru singing, shared alongside an animated music video for the Season 2 opening theme "Zettai Must Danmen" by (K)NoW_NAME.
The second season debuted on April 1, 2026, streaming "almost simultaneously worldwide" across multiple platforms including Crunchyroll and Netflix. Crunchyroll streams both English dubbed and subtitled versions, while Netflix carries the series in select regions.
A Cult Classic Returns
Dorohedoro takes place in a dismal city known only as "the Hole," where a clan of Sorcerers has been abducting residents for gruesome magical experiments. The story follows Caiman — a man with a reptile head and no memory — and his partner Nikaido as they hunt Sorcerers in hopes of finding the one who cursed him. Their rampage draws the attention of En, the head Sorcerer, sparking a war between two worlds.
"In a city so dismal it's known only as 'the Hole,' a clan of Sorcerers have been plucking people off the streets to use as guinea pigs for atrocious 'experiments' in the black arts."
Production Details
Yuichiro Hayashi (known for Garo the Animation and Kakegurui) directed the first season at MAPPA. Hiroshi Seko (Banana Fish, Mob Psycho 100, Vinland Saga) handled series composition, while Tomohiro Kishi (91 Days) designed the characters. Music continues to be composed by (K)NoW_NAME (Sakura Quest).
The first season of Dorohedoro debuted on Netflix in Japan in January 2020 with 12 episodes, and quickly built a passionate international fanbase. The second season expanded the story significantly, adapting further into the manga with its 11-episode run.
What's Next
While a specific release window for Season 3 has not yet been announced, the immediate greenlight — announced the same day as the Season 2 finale — suggests production may already be underway. Fans can expect more of the series' signature blend of visceral action, dark humor, and stylish world-building when Dorohedoro eventually returns.
