Seimaru Amagi and Rima Amamiya's mystery manga Gifted is receiving a television anime adaptation, set to broadcast in 2027. The announcement was made on June 4, 2026, though no studio, staff, or specific broadcast window has been confirmed yet.

About the Manga

Gifted follows Natsuki Amakusa, a genius detective with extraordinary deductive reasoning, insight, and logical thinking, and Yūya Shiki, who was born with the gift to identify murderers. The two become partners, combining their abilities to solve various difficult cases in this buddy mystery series.

The manga launched in Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine in December 2021. The 12th compiled volume was scheduled for release on June 12, 2026.

Previous Adaptation

The manga previously inspired a live-action drama series in 2023, starring Takahisa Masuda (NEWS) as Natsuki Amakusa and Hidaka Ukisho as Yūya Shiki. The live-action adaptation ran for two seasons (August 2023 and October 2023), demonstrating the property's broad appeal.

About the Creators

Seimaru Amagi is a pseudonym for Shin Kibayashi, one half of the renowned "Tadashi Agi" sibling duo (alongside sister Yuko Kibayashi), known for the international hit manga Drops of God. Kibayashi is a prolific and celebrated writer whose credits include The Kindaichi Case Files, GetBackers, Bloody Monday, and Psychometrer — making him one of the most experienced mystery manga writers in the industry. Rima Amamiya provides the artwork.

Community Reception

While the anime announcement is very recent, early reactions lean toward cautious optimism. The manga's existing fanbase and the success of the 2023 live-action adaptation provide a solid foundation. Fans on anime forums have expressed hope that this adaptation will succeed where other recent detective anime have struggled, with one comment noting: "I love mystery anime but all the recent detective anime have been dog shit... I really hope this is better." The involvement of Shin Kibayashi — a proven name in the mystery genre — adds considerable credibility to the project.

What This Means

The Gifted anime adaptation adds to a growing trend of shōjo and josei mystery series being adapted for television, following the success of shows like Kindaichi Case Files revivals and Case File nº221: Kabukicho. With the 2027 broadcast window, fans will have to wait over a year for the adaptation, but the pedigree of both the source material and its creators makes this one to watch.
