Key Announcement Details

Physical editions include both a Standard Edition and a Steelbook Edition featuring new cover art by character designer huke (who has revamped all character designs with new clothing and accessories), along with a first-print-run sticker bonus.

The game utilizes M2’s E-Mote animation system, the same middleware used in other modern visual novels, allowing detailed facial expressions and smooth character sprite animation. Background graphics have been updated to depict the Akihabara scene of 2010, with new locations not featured in the original game added alongside new event stills drawn under huke’s supervision.

The Japanese release arrives on August 20 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Text supports Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese, with Japanese audio only.

The original Steins;Gate game shipped in 2009 as the second Science Adventure Series project from MAGES. (then 5pb.), inspiring the iconic 2011 television anime, the Load Region of Déjà Vu film (2013), and Steins;Gate 0 (2018). The remake was originally announced for 2025 before being delayed.

Community Reception

The announcement of a Western physical release has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm from the global Steins;Gate fanbase, with the Steelbook edition’s huke artwork particularly praised. The use of E-Mote technology has been widely welcomed as a meaningful upgrade for character expression, though some purists have expressed curiosity about how the original’s iconic art style translates to the revamped designs. Fifteen years after the original release, Steins;Gate remains one of the most acclaimed visual novels of all time with a #1 ranking on Metacritic for the genre.

What This Means
