This year's 27th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump announced that writer Robinson Haruhara ('Tis Time for "Torture," Princess) and artist Taishi Tsutsui (We Never Learn) will launch a new manga titled Animal Signal in the magazine's next issue on June 8. Haruhara is writing the story and Tsutsui is drawing the manga.
What Is Animal Signal?
Animal Signal is described as a "bishōjo animal comedy" set in an organization called the Anima Countermeasures Center, whose members seem to possess incredible abilities. The series brings together two creators who have each built substantial fanbases through their previous Shonen Jump work.
Creator Backgrounds
Robinson Haruhara co-created 'Tis Time for "Torture," Princess with artist Hirakei, which launched on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ service in April 2019 and ran until August 2025 across 19 volumes. The series was adapted into two anime seasons broadcast in 2024 and 2025, streamed by Crunchyroll.
Taishi Tsutsui is best known as the creator of We Never Learn (Boku-tachi wa Benkyō ga Dekinai), which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from February 2017 to December 2020 across 21 volumes. The manga received a two-season anime adaptation in 2019. Tsutsui recently ended Syd Craft: Love Is a Mystery in June 2025, which had launched in November 2024 and was simultaneously released in English by Viz Media and Shueisha's MANGA Plus service.
Jump Landscape
The same issue also published the final chapter of Akira Inui's Alien Headbutt, which launched on February 9 and will conclude with two volumes shipping on July 3. Animal Signal thus enters the Jump lineup at a moment of transition, as the magazine continues to renew its roster with fresh titles.
Community Reception
The announcement has generated considerable buzz among Shonen Jump readers. Tsutsui's return to the magazine after Syd Craft has been met with optimism from fans who appreciated his We Never Learn character work and comedic timing. The pairing with Haruhara — whose "Torture," Princess demonstrated strong gag-writing skills — has been seen as a natural fit for a comedy series. Early reactions on social media are curious about what "bishōjo animal comedy" means in practice, with many fans of both creators' previous work planning to tune in for the first chapter.
The manga will be available in English simultaneously via Viz Media and Shueisha's MANGA Plus service starting June 8.
