Remedy Entertainment has officially announced the release date for Control Resonant during Sony's June 2026 State of Play. The highly anticipated sequel will launch on September 22, 2026 (September 24 globally) for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at a price of $60 / €60.

PS5 players who purchase the digital deluxe edition will receive 48-hour early access, allowing them to start playing on September 22. Xbox and PC players will join on the September 24 worldwide release date.

Game Details

Control Resonant is Remedy's most ambitious and expansive game to date, building on the supernatural world of the original Control while weaving in threads from the broader Remedy Connected Universe (which includes Alan Wake). The game continues Jesse Faden's story as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Control, but also introduces new perspectives and narrative layers.

"Control Resonant is Remedy Entertainment's most expansive game ever, complete with incredible gameplay, narrative twists and challenging creativity that will keep old fans and new engaged and entertained like nothing we have created before." — Johannes Paloheimo, Remedy's Chief Commercial Officer

Game director Mikael Kasurinen provided a deeper look at the story on the PlayStation Blog, indicating that the game connects to events from Alan Wake 2, though it remains unclear how integral Alan Wake's story will be to the experience.

Hands-On Impressions

IGN's executive previews editor Ryan McCaffrey saw Control Resonant back in March and came away impressed: "After seeing Control Resonant's aggressive, fast-paced combat for myself, I'm even more fired up to get my hands on it." The game features an expanded combat system that builds on the original's telekinetic powers with new abilities and more fluid movement.

Remedy's Growing Portfolio

Remedy is currently self-publishing Control Resonant, marking an ambitious step for the Finnish developer. The studio is also developing remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne in partnership with Rockstar Games, though details on those projects remain scarce.

Community Reception

Early reception to the release date announcement has been strong, with fans of the original Control — which sold over 4 million copies — eager to return to the Oldest House and the strange world Remedy has built. The Alan Wake 2 connection has particularly energized lore enthusiasts who follow the connected universe theory.

Some players expressed disappointment at the $60 price point in an era where many sequels have moved to $70, though most saw it as fair value given Remedy's track record for narrative depth and quality. The limited 48-hour PS5 early access drew minor backlash from Xbox and PC players, but is ultimately a timed exclusive perk characteristic of Remedy's Sony partnership.
