Nintendo has confirmed that Donkey Kong 64 is coming to Nintendo Switch Online next week. The classic N64 platformer will arrive on June 4 and will be accessible to any Switch or Switch 2 owner with an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription.
Developed by Rare and originally released in 1999, Donkey Kong 64 was the first DK platformer in 3D, letting players control five different Kong characters — Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Lanky Kong, Tiny Kong, and Chunky Kong — each with unique abilities. The game is also famous for its memorable soundtrack, including the rap-infused "DK Rap" that has become an enduring meme in gaming culture.
Donkey Kong 64 will join around 40 other games from the Nintendo 64 era available via Nintendo Switch Online, including Super Mario 64, Paper Mario, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Banjo-Kazooie.
The addition comes during a major moment for the DK franchise — Donkey Kong Bananza recently launched for Nintendo Switch 2, and a Donkey Kong film spinoff from the Mario movie universe is slated for April 2028.
