Japanese publisher Kadokawa has officially announced two new manga series set within the Mobile Suit Gundam universe, set to debut in the July 2026 issue of Gundam Ace magazine on June 26. The announcement includes a full serialization from veteran Gundam illustrator Kōzō Ōmori alongside a four-panel comedy strip from Kazuya Tani.
Kōzō Ōmori's New Serialization
Veteran illustrator Kōzō Ōmori is writing and drawing the first new serialization, titled Shien wa Minovsky no Eikyō o Ukenai (literally "Ash Flames Are Not Affected by Minovsky"). A prologue chapter will appear in the July 2026 issue of Gundam Ace (on sale June 26), with full serialization beginning in the September 2026 issue (on sale July 26).
Ōmori previously handled the manga adaptation of the Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative anime project, which launched in November 2018 and concluded in August 2025. Kadokawa published the manga's 17th and final compiled volume in November 2025. His extensive franchise history includes illustrating Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and Mobile Suit Gundam 00 2nd.Season for Kerokero Ace magazine (both previously released in English by Bandai Entertainment), as well as working on Mobile Suit Gundam UC Bande Dessinée from 2010 to 2016 and its prequel Episode:0 from 2017 to 2018.
SD Gundam Comedy Spin-Off
Artist Kazuya Tani is also launching a separate four-panel comedy manga titled SD Gundam G Generation Eternal 4-koma, which will launch directly in the June 26 issue of Gundam Ace. The strip is directly based on SD Gundam G Generation Eternal, a mobile strategy game for iOS and Android that originally launched in April 2025. The game is the latest entry in the long-running G Generation series and features super-deformed (SD) proportions for mobile suits drawn from various intersecting timelines.
Tani previously created the gourmet manga Ral Meshi: Ramba Ral no Haitoku Gohan, which launched in November 2020 and focused on Zeon ace Ramba Ral managing the Club Eden nightclub and enjoying solitary meals. That series ended its run in March 2025 before the sixth and final volume shipped in July 2025.
Franchise Legacy
First airing in 1979, the original Mobile Suit Gundam redefined the mecha genre by introducing grounded, military-style stories and complex political conflicts. The franchise has since expanded into a global phenomenon, spawning countless anime television broadcasts, theatrical films, plastic model kits (Gunpla), and video game adaptations. The continued expansion of its manga lineup in Gundam Ace demonstrates Kadokawa's commitment to keeping the franchise fresh across multiple storytelling formats.
Community Reception
News of the new manga series has generated positive buzz among the Gundam fandom. Fans on social media have expressed particular excitement about Ōmori's return to the franchise, given his acclaimed work on Gundam NT and Gundam 00 adaptations. The SD Gundam 4-koma has also attracted attention from G Generation Eternal players looking for expanded lore in a lighter format. Reddit discussions noted that the continuation of manga content alongside the ongoing Gundam: Hathaway film trilogy and the newly announced Gundam Wing visual project signals a strong year for the franchise across all media.
