Artist Puuzaki Puuna (also known as Puu no Puupuupuu or Zeroshiki Kōichi) announced on May 29, 2026, that their adult dōjin (同人, self-published) manga The Shy Snow Woman and the Cursed Ring (Hitozukiai ga Nigate na Mibōjin no Yuki Onna-san to Noroi no Yubiwa) is inspiring a television anime adaptation. Puuzaki Puuna claims this marks the first time an adult dōjin manga will be adapted directly into a TV anime without first having a separate commercial version — a notable milestone for the dōjin scene.
Details
The manga centers on Satoshi Takahashi, a remote worker and apartment manager who discovers a ring that can control yōkai (supernatural creatures). He uses it on Yukino Mifuyu, a yuki-onna (snow woman) and widow living in his complex who is still mourning her husband's death. The series blends supernatural romance with adult themes.
Puuzaki Puuna revealed that the television anime will feature an original story different from the original manga, rather than a direct adaptation. The anime will be produced by WWWave Corporation.
The dōjin manga currently has two all-color volumes, both of which have been released in English by Irodori Comics. The series has been self-published since July 2021 and is also available on the DLsite platform.

The announcement on X/Twitter garnered 37.6K likes and over 259 replies within the first day, a strong indicator of community excitement. The announcement illustration by Puuzaki Puuna was widely shared. On Anime News Network, the article attracted 11 forum posts. The unique nature of the announcement — an adult dōjin directly to TV anime — has been the main topic of discussion, with many noting this could open the door for more indie manga to get mainstream adaptation.
